LIONHEART ANDALUSIANS

Pure Spanish Horse

The Pure Spanish Horse, or Andalusian horse, has lived on the Iberian Peninsula since the beginning of times and is represented in cave paintings dating back 25,000 years. All purebred Andalusian horses can be traced back directly to the stud books of Spain and Portugal. Eventually the Cria Caballar introduced the name as the Pura Raza Espanola, or Pure Spanish Horse, reflecting that the Spanish Military Stud books held pedigrees for ancient purebred Spanish Horses from all over Spain and not limited to the Andaluz area in the South of Spain. The Pure Spanish Horse evolved in a rugged environment, used for Vaquero or cattle work, and developed to build a strong arched neck, short-coupled and powerful body with hind legs positioned well underneath the body, providing strong impulsion and suspension.
